Roy Ayers last night was such an inspiration! Great music and greater man. WOW!!!!! I Love it when I meet my heroes and they're cool.

I was in La Rochelle France last night and performed at this beautiful new venue along with this really cool and dope cat from Brooklyn and Ghana named Blitz the Ambassador and ROY AYERS!!!

Before the show his tour manager came up and asked if i wanted to meet Roy and I was like yeah but lets wait til after the show (i figure he doesn't want some dude gawking at him all star struck) and he was like no lets just do it now!

He greeted me with smiles and we had a great convo about music, him playing with and being impressed by Pete Rock in Japan, touring and more. WOW. Then he ripped the stage with joints like Running, Searching, and of course Sunshine. I'm so inspired by this mans humility and grace.

Ahhh good.

So last time I was in France I had the pleasure of rocking with a new friend and amazing singer Keren Ann! We met at a show we both did for Radio Nova in Paris and 2 days later she invited me to share the stage with her for her concert on Canal+!

Earthquake in Japan.

I just landed yesterday for my tour of Japan.

So I was going through my set with DJ Tonk at his house when everything started shaking. Tonk was like "earthquake" then we went to the door and it kept going, then we went outside and it kept going! I never felt an earthquake last so long and being on the 7th floor I just kept having...well...crazy thoughts, the whole building was swaying. I had no idea how big it was until it was over (8.8). Needless to say my show in Shibuya was cancelled. It's the next day now and I'm still trying to figure out if I should do these shows in the south of Japan or just try to bounce out of the country. I hear all flights have been cancelled though and transportation to get anywhere is pretty much at a standstill. Trying to figure out my options. I'm safe and staying focused!

Sending thoughts and prayers to all those affected. I'll update this as I can.

EARTHQUAKE!!!!!!!! Snap just had the longest earthquake i ever felt here in Japan! woah another one...

7:30pm-fri.

Just finished driving 4 over an hour & got less than 1 mile. The roads are packed & the trains aren't running & everyone is stuck. I keep hearing sirens going off 2. Phone's are dead & lines at the pay phones on the street are long. Its so weird to see people lining up 4 pay phones! Aftershocks seem to be getting smaller though. Looks like I'm not going anywhere tonight along with a bunch of other people. Crazy.

10:30pm-fri.

Hey ya'll thx 4 all the energy. I'm safe. Giving thanks for that & the fact I'm in a building with heat. Just riding out the aftershocks. I usually watch these events on tv and forget about the fear that goes along with living through one of these tragedies. This is scary. Honestly I usually feel disconnected, I have a whole new perspective now...Sending prayers to all those affected. another aftershock...

4:20am-sat.

ts somewhere around 4am & another aftershock just woke me up & for about 3 seconds I had no idea where I was & freaked out! Lots of people are sleeping at the train station w/ blankets from the government & I cant stop thinking about this really scared girl I saw crying today in the middle of all the chaos. Hope the trains run today so I can get 2 the south of Japan. I'm safe. Many thanks for the thoughts & prayers!

10:47am-sat.

ok so flights are up and trains are at 50 percent. we're about to try and get a train and head to Fukuoka where its pretty unaffected. Aftershocks have really slowed down and thanks to my homie Ethan Headnodic Parsonage I got a couple amazing beats to occupy my mind and to write to. Not sure when I'll get a signal for the net again but I'll post when I do. Peace.

Arrived in Fukuoka & its a different world here. Normal & pretty unaffected by the quake.It's surreal 2 see the news & then 2 walk down the streets here & see regular activity.The airport was packed w/ folks camping & trying to leave but somehow my flight wasn't cancelled. I'm staying here in the south til wednesday til I fly home. I'm good but there's lots of devastation in this country, please send prayers.

So I made it to the south of Japan & have been at my friends family's house in a small village in the country eating good food & hanging in his mom's garden. It's a REALLY beautiful traditional Japanese house & very safe. So thankful I got to get away from all the madness & experience this part of the culture at the same time really feeling sad about those still dealing with this tragedy. Tomorrow back to Tokyo to catch my flight home!

I really had no idea what to expect and honestly was very pleasantly surprised by the amazing success of the tour. I can say that most of that is due to the homies/super fresh production duo PAPER PLANE PROJECT. I usually take alot more footage and pictures when I travel but i was completely caught up in the experience.

Rocking with United Vibrations (who are AMAZING), hanging with the new homie Homeboy Sandman, meeting the cats from Radiohead, talking about music and crossing genres with James Blake, plus dancing to all the incredible dj's from the night (LEFTO!!!!) and Flying Lotus' great set! WOW!!! I'm more inspired than ever and super stoked that there are cats like Gilles still exposing mass amounts of people to great music!

Anyway here's the little footage i did get from an AMAZING trip to London where I performed at Gilles Peterson's World Wide Awards show!

Hanging with the some of the Hip Hop cats in Canoas Brazil. With no ways to understand each others language a cipher started about 1 minute after meeting. i don't know what they were saying but we definitely felt each others energy and ended up hanging and laughing beatboxing saying key words like dilla! then everyone would go AHHHHHH! uber fresh, we ended up hanging all night. Meeting up for some b-ball tomorrow :)

These folks just fed my soul. A community group of afro-brazilians from Sao Paulo who have there own line of clothing they make (even the material to make the gear!) All the loot goes into self sustaining there culture and the designs were DOPE! African images that were placed in the most off the wall parts of the gear and color combos that popped! They were also dancing for the dude with the corn rolls in the back who's name is GOG and is literally one of the most accomplished mc's in Brazil with 9 c.d.'s he's a political cat with a dope stage presence and HELLA cool vibe. 4 different cats described him as "the KRS 1 of brazil" Getting in the studio with him today :)

went and did a workshop with these kids on the outskirts of the city (porto alegre). Crazy! We had a translater (the homie brian) with us and we talked about the struggles we face as artists (and brown people) and as a community and culture... but it really cracked off when they asked us to freestlye next thing you know were beatboxing and these cats were poppin and sliding with HUGE smiles on there faces. what a blessing,I really learned alot. Hip hop and music in general really bridges the gap.

These were more kids from the group. These dudes were mad funny! Everytime the girl who ran the program would come talk to me as soon as she walked away they would start patting me on the back and going "oooooooohhhhh she like she like" and crackin themselves up, they also had a dope dancing style. The crazy thing was how much they were paying attention when we were talking, really listening and trying to soak up the hip hop that was different than the images they had in there heads...

Signing autographs for more youth. I don't know where these 2 kids came from but they had me signing anything they could get there hands on. Watching these 2 take care of each other was dope.

SUPER inspiring seeing all types of people including themselves in the common struggle. I just got home from a 5 week tour hitting Osaka and Tokyo Japan, Bali Indonesia, and the western half of the United States promoting my crew's (Crown City Rockers) new release (*The day after forever!) I had a great time but I'm really happy to be back home in the bay area. But day 2 of being back a report came out sighting Oakland as the 3rd most dangerous city in the U.S. and has lots of folks focusing on the negatives and while some of the points may be true I offer a flipside to a city I love.

By the time we get home on saturday it will be about 5 weeks that we've been away. First Osaka then Tokyo Japan then Bali Indonesia and finally a west coast run of the Americas. The shows have been great, the people have been beyond incredible, and the places I've seen have been inspirational. But as Kat put it last night during one of our intense conversations I think I'm having a culture shock.

I've heard about jazz musicians in the past going "overseas" and feeling the love but I never really got it til' I experienced it first hand. It felt like we were tricking everybody, cars picking us up at the airports and hotels, all of our gear set-up on stage as soon as we walked in to soundcheck, tours on scooters thru the rice fields in Bali, signing shoes, ipods, foreheads!, packed shows and people who don't speak my language screaming my lyrics back at me and in general feeling such a love from the people when playing our music.

Now don't get me wrong we get love here too but on a much smaller scale and after leaving there its hard to get used to poor tournouts, underpromoted shows, or great shows with EVERYBODY getting down except for those 4 people IN THE FRONT just staring and looking bored (why stand in the front???). In a way I know I just gotta realize we have more work to do. Plus it's what I love to do whether there's 5 or 5000 doing live shows is incredibly fun. Gotta make more music for ya'll to feel I guess.

Hey BAD show promoters here’s 10 good ideas!

1. How about not booking 9 groups for a show that starts at 10pm and ends at 2am
2. How about having a sound man
3. Maybe not having a group sound check only to erase the mix when they perform
4. What about promoting the show outside of a facebook bulletin
ummm lemme think.
5. How about not trying to pay me with free t-shirts and or beer/weed
6. Oh water would be nice.
7. This may be asking alot but...dont record the show and sell it.
8. Maybe you shouldn't get drunk jump on stage during MY set and make yourself part of the show.
9. How about a d.j. for the hip hop show?
10. How about not spitting in my ear when your wasted telling me what I need to do to "make it" at the end of the night when you should be paying me.

Sade Adu, the reclusive "quiet storm" soul signer who takes notoriously long breaks between releases, has regrouped with the band that bears her name and is recording her first album of new material since 2000's "Lovers Rock," Billboard.com sources confirm. The group is in the studio through June and Sony hopes to put the record out by the end of 2009 though, despite rumors, there is no set release date on the calendar.

"She is in the studio and the album will come when it is ready," a source at Sony tells Billboard. "You don't wait for years for one and then rush it."

Sade's longtime bandmate Stuart Matthewman, a.k.a. Cottonbelly, also confirms that new material is in progress, though he says the project is still in its "early days" and won't be close to finished until "later in the year."
